Finally bought an Evoque, some help please
Discussion
Hi chaps after lots of commotion finally bought an Evoque Dynamic with Panoramic roof for the mrs it is our first car from Land Rover. We had a very disappointing and poor service from Guy Salmon Ascot so would appreciate if the PH massive could assist.
Firstly is there somewhere that details what to expect prep wise from an Approved Used Car?
For example:
The car has loads of stone chips on the front bumper
Alloy has been curbed
Drivers side wool mat has hole in it(was covered by paper)
Brake pads seem thin, what's the minimum thickness?
Also are these sticky tabs between the front window and the inside pillars normal? They don't look quite right...

Here is a quick pic before I do a proper write up and post pics soon:

Go Here for all things Evoque. http://www.evoqueownersclub.co.uk/forum/forums.htm... Its a mind of info
It's too late to now say you want the wear & tear items repaired after the car has left the dealership. These sorts of things should be negotiated as part of the deal. Personally, if you were not happy with the whole experience, then best avoid them to rectify these issues. Any reputable alloy wheel repairer can sort the alloy for £60 -ish. The bumper will require a respray if you want it perfect. Full removal of the bumper is the only way to get a first class finish. £300-400. Again you can source a LR approved bodyshop to get this work done.
As for the sticky tape, do the windows rattle with it removed, other than that maybe it's a new windscreen? See if it has the proper Land Rover etching in the glass.....
James formally from Lookers Park Royal, think he has moved up the road, but is a great place to start, I'm sure there will be a post from him not too far back..

Minimum thickness for the brake pads should be 3mm, but you can realistically expect to get much more usage out of them than that.
The company I work for will change them if they're 4mm or below.
Alloys on such a car would usually be refurbished too, as it only costs them (internally) around 30-50 quid per rim! Unless, they're diamond cut. Most establishments will need to send these wheels away so will cost substantially more.
Stone chips? Need to show closer pictures. But this should've been recognised before purchasing it? If you feel the price for the car didn't reflect its condition...you shouldn't have bought it?
Regarding the tabs on/in the window, as said above need a better picture. I have seen rubber tabs left in on what I assume are left there as 'chocks' on the assembly line and left in.

Despite the PR hype, you are buying a fairly complex car, built to a price.
Given the LR reputation for problems, you may need to re calibrate expectations around quality and service.
We're looking at a new RRS at the moment (new to brand) and have been quite shocked by experience so far.

built to a price? the evoque must be the most expensive brand in its segment. Given the LR reputation for problems, you may need to re calibrate expectations around quality and service.

People who buy Rolex watches will argue they're the best quality watches in the world. They will go out of time every day, require lots of maintenance and will be quite unreliable. A £5 Casio will keep its time for 10years before neediest a new battery and I bet we've all got one still ticking away in a draw somewhere. The Casio is the higher quality watch.
Land rover don't make quality cars, they make expensive ones.

That's a common mistake; to confuse quality with cost. Just because something costs a lot, doesn't mean it's better than something that's cheaper.

Agreed- I'm saying that it should be very good when in fact the Evoque is a marketing success. Convince buyers it's great when in fact, in my opinion it's slow, underpowered, thirsty and very expensive.People who buy Rolex watches will argue they're the best quality watches in the world. Nothing was really happening until we completed the sytner survey and I contacted the Dealer Principal direct.
Car was given new mats and the missing screws for the engine cover replaced.
Lookers had a look at the other bits and pieces and said were ok.
The front bumper is subjective and for the alloy they had already after much disagreement given a £100 for refurb(although will cost more as diamond cut)
Wish I hadn't have had to gone through all this but will give this closure now and enjoy the car. Thanks for all your support.
Now I want to see mods I can do, firstly see if I can retrofit Blind Spot Monitoring
