Hi
Further to my earlier thread regarding a flat battery on my MY11 V8V, V8V battery recharge I availed myself of a CTEK battery conditioner and have charged/reconditioned the battery over the last couple of days. The car now starts and all is fine, apart from the central locking, electric windows and folding mirrors are all dead! Has anyone come across this before? Is there something else that needs to be reset? Or is this a sign of an electrical fault caused by the flat battery which'll need a dealer fix?

If the windows don't move, I would suspect the door modules - as they lso control locking and mirrors IIRC. Some people have had success with removing, and putting back the fuses for the door modules. Otherwise it will be a swap out job.
If windows move, then reset them - instructions in the FAQ.

You should also get your battery tested, modern cars are very susceptible to issues related to battery condition/ voltage. If in any doubt replace the battery. I have encountered several cars throwing fault codes etc all due to a failing battery. Just because it will start the car dose not mean that it is in top condition.

Lead acid batteries do not fair well if completely flat and do not charge properly after a discharge. It may be better to consider an AGM battery which does not suffer as much after discharge, in addition will charge to full capacity after discharge. They will cost more but they will not have the fluctuations of conditions of a lead acid battery and are less problematic to the electrics of the car.

Neil you're a star! Pulled both door module fuses and now everything's working again. Many thanks!

Regarding the battery, this is the first time it's gone flat (in 3+ years) and was my fault entirely as I haven't driven the car for several weeks due to the bad weather. I made sure I recharged it with an "intelligent" charger in recondition mode, so hopefully it'll be OK as long as I don't leave it quite so long between drives (and I'll make sure I trickle charge it in future if I do)! If it happens again as you say I'll need to look at getting a new battery but hopefully it'll be OK now..

thanks guys,

Chris

As the battery is over 3 years old, you may well now find that the battery will not hold sufficient charge for very long (maybe a week) to start the car, if you don't keep it on the Ctek all the time.

Batteries are strange things aren't they? My Z4 is 11 years old and still on the original battery. But my Mercs needed changing at about 5 years. Aston four years and counting, all fingers crossed!

No problem. Thanks for letting everyone know it worked, as to the forum knowledge. Astons do throw some odd electrical gremlins now and again.

So now that's sorted we can go off topic! wink
