Mazda MX-5: Pic Of The Week

Well a PH Hero surely deserves a place as POTW, doesn't it?

Grey was the colour of the suits, the phones, the buildings and apparently the photography studios in 1989. From September of that year, this is the earliest press shot of the MX-5 we could find; in case you hadn't noticed, there's a bit of MX-5 adulation going on throughout PH for the foreseeable.

This photo says a lot about where press info has come since the late 80s too. There's no elaborate Photoshoppery here or fantastically exotic location, just a basic and simple car in a basic and simple setting. Roof down on its original (silver) daisy wheels, the MX-5 looks impossibly dainty and almost quite cute. Funnily enough, having been created to evoke the spirit of classic European roadsters, the MX-5 is now old enough to offer a vaguely historic experience itself.

Anyway, choose the appropriate format and let your PC or phone enjoy the MX-5 for a few days. We'll be back to something fast and sideways and spitting flames next Friday.

The P1's so good it should keep POTW going for the next 6 weeks before resorting to an old wheezy Mazda.

Worst. POTW. Ever?

Nothing against MX-5s, but it's not the best shot and you definitely shouldn't have let the work experience boy near it with Photoshop. What's going on with the colourisation/levels around the front bumper?!

Well I actually think it's a very nice picture of the MX-5 but it doesn't cut it as a wallpaper for me... it would make my laptop look like a Mazda salesman's. From 1989.
