Import Only Insurance

Afternoon,
I was just wondering if anyone else has come across 'import only' insurance before? I'm looking to change my car from an import MX5 to a UK MR2. I've tried changing my policy only to be told that my policy is import only. I questioned if they should have told me this when I took the policy out only to be told that they don't know what I plan to do 6 months down the line. The guy was very arsey and when I questioned if I could cover an import MR2 he started making it sound like I planned to lie to them.
It's all resolved now, by cancelling the policy with them I get a refund of £94 after admin fees. I'll be moving on and will make sure I don't go with this company in the future.

It isnt as if you can say, well I didnt know.

They don't do 'import only' exclusively, they cover all types of car with imports being one of them. They didn't tell me on the phone that it was an 'import only' policy and my policy document doesn't state it either. I was simply asking the question to see if anyone else has come accross this before. It isnt as if you can say, well I didnt know.

As I said, I'm pleased to be moving away from them, if it's this much trouble to change the car I'm covered for imagine what it would be like if I came to make a claim.

The broker may well sell policies for other vehicles. That doesn't mean that whichever underwriter they placed your policy with will do so.a broker and an underwriter are two different things, always make sure you have a gander of the underwriter before paying for the policy.
