Good news. I've seen the light and ditched a BMW for it's poor build quality and got a Mondeo!

Lovely. No more "how are we going to get the bikes in that?" problems.

It's a 1.8 TDCI Zetec with 114,000 miles on it. (I'd have loved a 2.0 but this was available and a good deal was done). It's had pretty much a total engine replacement by a ford dealer at ~96,000 miles. So hopefully it'll go on for a while.

A couple of questions:
Should there be a filler cap? At the moment it's open the body flap, and that's it, nothing else to remove. It looks like it's ok without one, I was just surprised.

I'd like to retrofit bluetooth and possibly satnav. Does anybody know if the satnav/bluetooh/DVD player things on ebay worth the £225, and do I still need to fit the microphone or do they have an inbuilt mic?

Fingers crossed I can get more than 50mpg down the motorway!

Good choice.

No there is not a separate fuel cap, just the external flap which locks with the central locking.

Suprised you haven't. already got bluetooth, my 2.0 tdci zetec has it.

I've pulled up the build on etis and I think these are the relevant lines.

Less Auxiliary Compact Disc Player
With A/V Jack
Less Bluetooth
Roof Mounted Radio Antenna
ICE-Low Level CD + AM/FM Radio
Ice Feature Pack 2
Less Diversity Antenna
With 8 Speakers
Less Telephone Preparation Pack
Less Family Entertainment System

Which begs the question. What's the A/V Jack? Is this an aux socket that I've not found yet?

Are the engines in these mk4's unreliable? I'm looking at 2.5t's at the moment and stumbled on s-max's, two of them on autotrader at the moment with blown engines.....

Mine has a 3.5mm jack plug in the glovebox.

Ford introduced an Easy Fuel system on Mondoes which means there is no fuel cap.

You shouldn't be able to put the wrong fuel in either and there should be an anti syphoning system built in.

I love my Mondeo estate which is great for lugging daughter and her gear to her Uni. It's a fantastic load carrier.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll have a look in the glovebox for the jack. I'd heard of the easy fuel thing, I hadn't realised it did away with the need for the cap though. thumbup

Now I just have to find what is vibrating at idle. I think it's the plastic tray the bonnet "prop" clips onto. One end of that is flapping about and doesn't clip onto the metal like the other side.
