Extra Strong Dog Crate

He is a puppy. How much play and exercise does he get? Because it sounds like he is bored.
Well he must have a very low boredom threshold then. He gets 3 walks a day, totalling at least two hours. He gets a run on the beach every day and gets non stop attention from myself and three kids. He is one of the best behaved dogs we've had, the problem is when he is left alone. He will have to be left for 1-2 hours of a Monday and occasionally the same time of a weekend. Sounds daft but have you tried leaving the internal doors open? Our mutt destroyed a door because he likes the run of the place. We thought leaving him in the kitchen/diner would minimise any damage.
When we're out he's allowed the kitchen, living room & dining room. Never any damage and the only "mess" by the back door once or twice (which can be forgiven) We gave up the cage @ six months old because he didn't like being confined.
My MIL's dog hated being locked in the kitchen (can't even manage to look out of a window) but perfectly ok when allowed access to the living room/conservatory.
I know some people/dogs get on with cages but we only found it of any use when he was very young and settled into it okay.

We put ours in a metal dog cage - I thought this seemed incredibly cruel when I first heard about the idea but it works really well.
Normally the door is open but when we need her out of the way for a few hours or at night we shut it.
We did buy a HUGE one so she can stand and turn etc

We had/have this problem with our beagle cross. He was originally left in the lounge with our other dog but coming home to him chewing and tearing things apart got old very quickly. I tried a couple of cheaper cages but he chewed through them and escaped out the door. I then found a savic cage. Much stronger bars. Although I still have to cable tie all the ends together and pad lock the main door ( he worked out how the latches work) he has not managed to break out of this one.
He doesn't mind been in the cage and will enter of his own free will. I feel bad sometimes for locking him up but when he learns not to mess in the house and destroy things he csn have his feedom.
He is getting better as he gets older and is currently studying for his silver good citizen award.

Some dogs like being crated.Simba's one is big enough for him, he can stand, turn and lie down easily.
He goes in it on his own accord, knows the command for if i need him in there to do something.
And he sleeps in it, right up against the metal.
It might look uncomfortable, but he loves it.
