Higher tax band post 2006

So those with co2 higher than 225 are I the higher tax band of £400+ a year

Question, did the higher tax band start back in 2006 or were some cars penalised after rule changes?

It started March 2006 and only applied to new cars.

Hence why a 2005 RX-8 costs £280 to tax whereas my 2009 model costs £480. FML.

For a while it applied to cars imported after 23 Mar 2006 whether new or not! I know this as my 54 plate Impreza was over £400 re VED albeit they may well have back tracked on that since.
