Virgin Tivo sound loss

As title, we lost the sound on our Tivo box yesterday late afternoon (everything else on it worked perfectly), a quick google search turned up a multitude of people having/had the same problem, tried resetting the box by turninig off the power but no joy so gave Virgin a call, they did one of their tests and informed me "there appears to be a problem with your Tivo box!".
We have an engineer booked for this afternoon but after reading various websites on the problem I tried almost every way for a fix, thankfully I got the sound working again but didn't cancel the engineer as reading the websites there appears to be a lot of people who sound loss happens to on a regular basis!
Anyone else had/have this happen?
