Has the image of a car ever put you off buying it?

I ask as i am interested in the audi TTS as it ticks a lot of boxes for me in being reasonably well built and cheap to run and fairly understated.
One thing that puts me off is that whenever chatting about cars with people the perception of a TT is as “girly” or a “hairdressers car”.
why should i care what others think if i like the car? Well the thought of constantly having to justify my purchase to some tiresome prick down the pub would soon get boring for me. So I guess i actually do care what others think,whether or not that makes me vain and/or shallow i don’t know? But don’t we all care to an extent?

t about any of them. It's a great looking car with a sexy engine and a t-top. fNo not at all,its your choice and its not going to liked by everyone. The TTS and TTRS are both good cars, good value for money, low running costs (unless start modifying them) and lots more of a drivers car than the MK1 - which the hair dressers tag was possibly deserved.
Not sure if a new TTS or TTRS would be a that good a buy at the moment, due to new one soon - although the TTS / TTRS mk3 will not be seen for a year after the launch of the mk3 TT. Good lease yes.
As already said the detractors have generally never driven one or are driving some shopping car / have no interest in cars.

Pretty much everyone will have an opinion on whatever car you drive so it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, just buy the car you want & enjoy it.
When I had my TVR people used to shout it will break down any minute when I had my X5 I was a drug dealer & when I had my M3 I was a show off & when I had my Z4MR I was a hairdresser...I couldn't argue with that though!!
Currently we have a TTS had it from new & its 2 years old in july & now covered 47k miles & its been fine I agree its not the most engaging car to drive in the world but as a package I think it ticks plenty of boxes & I personally think it looks great.

)I can honestly say I couldn't give a rat's left testicle what anyone outside of my household thinks about my choices in life, vehicular or otherwise.
Frankly, I can imagine little worse than feeling compelled to base major purchasing decisions on the expectations and prejudices of complete strangers.

This, exactly. I had the good fortune to have the use of a DB9 for a week, no sooner had we rocked up to a nice country pub a guy made a beeline for me. Not sure, was thinking of buying a very well cared for SL R129 and no matter how cheap you buy it,
some people will still say that you have to be wealthy owning one. Same crap when I owned
a Ducati Monster Dark for 2k pounds. A Ducati? Must have cost you a fortune and will inevitably break
all the time.
The redneck me decided to choose a Buell Lightning over the Ducati, and a 79 Corvette over the Mercedes.
Most people don't know what a Buell is so no preformed opinion.
The Corvette will obviously be a gas guzzling yank tank without proper handling.
But I don't really give a flying f, as I also rock a Ural sidecar and a very yellow classic Fiat 500.
