dumb how to connect car speakers question

this must be easy but i'm tired!
have some new speakers and want to use the speaker wire that comes with them - they just have a piece of wire at the end no connector etc.
the new head unit has hifi style speaker in connections ( i'm an expert you can tell ).
went to halfords expecting there to be a common attach wire to a line in connector part but couldnt see anything.
what am i supposed to use to connect the speaker wire to the head unit.

Do you mean phono connectors? if so they are usually for running to sub/another amp... Most head units i've seen also have a multi-way connector that breaks out to the wires for speakers and power... often the speaker connectors are bullet type connectors so either buy the other gender to crimp on your bare wires, or cut off the bullet connectors and solder
Are you fitting new speakers where there were no speakers before or replacing old ones, same with the headunit?
If you aren't fitting Amps, crossovers, etc, you will see very little, if any gain by using different speaker wire to that which is wired into the car and feeding it round the car can be a real pain.
Get some pictures up of the connections and it might become a little clearer.

mind you do need to stick some rear ones in at some point but that can wait till the summer!
