Do any of you chaps use the Kumho list 1B tyres? If so, how do you rate them against, 888's and such like? If I decide to go with them I'll be using them to do 40 minute races in a Tuscan..

Thanks in advance

They are probably the best 1b tyre in terms of outright dry grip but are completely useless in damp/wet conditions. Not sure Medium (K60) compounds would last 40 minutes on a Tuscan so you may have to experiment with Medium and Hard compounds.

I have used R888's since 2005 for sprinting and really like them. I tried medium v60's in 2012 and hated them. They just didn't work for me, bugger all grip and not predictable but it was cold in March so I ended up selling them at a huge loss and buying another set of 888's. Quite a few sprinters use them to good effect especially on warm days. The sprinters mostly use super sorts and they turn into chewing gum very quickly, perhaps only a couple of hard laps before they go off. You should fare better in a tuscan though cos it's 100kg lighter than a griff.

We are being offerred the V70 Hard or the Pirelli Pzero Rosso for our series, The P zero is not very predicatable but is probably a better wet tyre - now i'm not so sure which is the better dry tyre?

Well........since 2008 I've had about 65 consecutive grid starts. In all that lot I reckon I've had only 6 wet races, so I reckon I'll give the Kumhos a go. I always back right off in a wet race anyway 'cos I don't want to trash my car. Last year at Silverstone I tried to race using 12 year old Dunlop wets which were harder than the tarmac they were running on!!!!! The Kumhos can't be any worse than that!!!!!

Cheers, I think the Kumho will be considerably quicker in the dry, I just don't know wheter to get a set of rims with the P zero's on for very wet races? tough call - but then if its a close call then there probably nothing in it.

We sometimes use those V 70's on our road rally car and it's surprising just how well they do grip In the wet. Though deep standing water is a problem for them. we don't put much power through the to be fair, but the road surfaces are not what you might call smooth either!.

You can get the kumho's cut for 'wet' tyre like tread.... I may be wrong... But I think blackpool tyres were a kumho dealer and did this....

I've used them... IF you match the correct compound for the right day..... They are great, problem is... You really need 2-3 compounds to cover all eventualities.. Plus 'wets'

888s may not offer the ultimate grip... Bit are consistent.. And not as fickle imho

We cannot tamper with them, we are just being offered the HARD tyre or the P zero Rosso road tyre. I am presuming that the Kumho will be quicker in the dry and damp, I think some testing is required.

From the experience I have with those I reckon they would eat a P-Zero alive. Possibly even in mildly wet conditions too. Not full wet with standing water though.

OK, thanks for all your input chaps. Given all the comments I've ordered a set of Kumhos in the hard compound hoping they will last well in a 40 minute race against various marques running a mixture of mainly 888's and Yokos.

Also, Thank you to everyone and sorry for hijacking the thread a little, I will be taking delivery of my hard compound tyres within the next two weeks. I'll probably not use the P zero's again.

Doing a couple of future classic with the CSCC. Silverstone and Oulton hopefully. Donington with DDMC and Rockingham, Angelsey, and Oulton with the Tuscan Challenge. Bit of a mixed bag for a change biggrin
