Due to have belt change on next opc service, does belt come with tensioner bearings as kit or do I ask specifically to have these changed as well, thinking as an engineer as potentially changing loads to a bearing being in use for a while can exaggerate wear

The loads experienced by the bearings do not change. The idler roller bearings/tensioner do not have a replacement schedule. I bought a set of spares years ago for my 02 Boxster. I still have them, unused. The original ones have lasted 277K miles and several belt changes.

My Turbo had a bad idler roller bearing -- the upper most one next to the power steering pump -- and was replaced (under warranty). The replacement has lasted for over 60K miles, the original ones for 117K miles.

Consult with your tech in case his experience is different but you do not need to replace the idler roller or tensioner when you replace the belt unless of course a check of these finds one bad.

As above, best to check tho bearings for any untoward noise or excess play when belt off ( like I do when replacing belt, other techs should do this also).. 9 times out of 10 you can hear a worn belt roller when spun with belt removed.. also If no untoward noises are heard when car ticking over from belt area you will be fine.
Very seldom I have to change these and when I do they are usually can heard over engine noise pretty easy to the trained ear.

Hi coxy, I have had two cars that have either waterpump or roller failure recently, within a week of new belt, I always check pump for any play and spin rollers to check foe any noise.
