Exhaust removal
Discussion
...on the V6 it is the two either side of the box about halfway down the car and then one right at the back where the two pipes are held/ spaced apart.
Other than that, then they tend to only be held ad the front to the hockey sticks. If you have cats or cat replacement pipes then it is easier to undo them and remove hockey sticks with the main exhaust and then separate them with the lump hammer as they tend to seize together with the overlapping fit.

Trying tyo break the downpipe to mainpipe joints is hard work. I found that, if I slackened the bolts at manifold to down pipe, then took out all the three silencer mountings as AutoAndy above, I could drop the whole exhaust low enough to get the tank out to one side. Before moving the tank I did however remove the nearside rear wheel and separated the tank from the cradle and took the cradle out the back first. Take care to support the pipe so as not to put too much force on the front joints but it did prove relatively easy to get the tank out this way. FAR easier than separating and repositioning the exhaust!

Trying to take the exhaust off so I can finally take the petrol tank off, all bolts removed but the dam thing won't budge!
I'm assuming it's just the exhaust paste holding it on now so just need to use more brute force but am I missing something?!

Very topical; I was looking at this today. According to the bible it can be done without removing the exhaust but I'm not sure how. I was going to post to ask if anyone had managed it on a V8S. Would be very awkward, why struggle and risk damaging manifolds?V8 is probably a little different but on the V6 it's is just a matter of getting the main silencer off the two "hockey sticks", all the mounting bolts have to be taken out anyway.
If it had been fitted with U bolt type exhaust clamps the pipes and the stubs they go into will be crimped together, a tool like this hammered in will help open them up without too much distortion but when needs must an old screwdriver will do.
Then, as said, lots of pulling, twisting and wiggling on the tailpipes!
Lots of "Copper Slip" when it goes back together and "Mikalor" type clamps

Thanks Mike. I think removal is the sensible option. V8 is probably a little different but on the V6 it's is just a matter of getting the main silencer off the two "hockey sticks", all the mounting bolts have to be taken out anyway.
