Aftermarket Warranties

A friend has an Audi B6 2.0tdi 56 plate and is looking to keep it longer than planned but fancies some peace of mind with a warranty. His Audi warranty expired last year.

Any recommendations,ideas on cover,prices, mileage limits, key exclusions, excesses, servicing requirements etc.......

The Mondial provided warranty that Audi offer seems to be the best, well rated by those who have used it and easy to claim on. However on a 56-plate it will be expensive and he might be better of just putting the money into a maintenance pot.

If he looks at the AA one, READ the fine print for qualifying conditions, CAREFULLY .He will also need AA Breakdown cover .

WD have treated me kindly, so I sort of recommend them. But tread carefully and always service your car on time.

Been looking into this as my mini is liable to st its timing chain all over the floor at any point, and I kinda get the save up a fund in case things go tits up, but it has drawbacks too.

Check they will replace like for like, my warranty company wanted to put the cheapest sttiest parts on my car and refused to pay the extra for a direct replacement. Ended up paying £200.00 extra to get the part replaced properly.

Also check labour rate's they will pay for, will rule out main dealer repairs.

Have a look in Extra Care Lite by Warranty Direct. They don't advertise it much.

Essentially it's the same level of cover as the full warranty but there's a clause that you have to be recovered to a garage before you can claim.

I took a punt on a 3 year warranty for my 2005 550i on this basis. It works out at about £120 a year instead of about £800. I haven't needed to claim yet but had a good experience with a WD full warranty a few years ago.

I've used Warranty Wise for the past few years with my Maseratis. I've had a few claims during that time. Nothing too major. However, they did an efficient job each time and the dealers that I used, were always impressed.

Indeed, the chaps at H.R Owen, made a point of telling me that WW were by far the best warranty company they had dealt with.

Warranty Wise are great in my experience. Helpful staff, speedy payout, no quibbling.
