Squeaky clutch pedal

As per thread title, clutch pedal squeaks when depressed (but not when released). I thought I could live with it but it's actually really annoying. Pumping the pedal 5-6 times stops it briefly but it's back almost straight away. Anyone know how to fix?

What car? Hydraulic or cable?

Mine does it and it's due to a pivot point underneath becoming degreased AFAIK. Annoying but an easy fix.

2008 Mazda6 six speed - I thought all conventional clutches were hydraulic - certainly "feels" hydraulic.

Depends on the age of car - the older you get, the more chance of a cable clutch; it's generally on small cars though, to minimise cost/complexity.

Had exactly the same issue with a Pug 206. The dealer 'lubricated' and "greased' the pivot umpteen times under warranty, but never fixed it properly. The squeak (and a few other niggles) did my crust in to such an extent that I sold the car.

I'd have done it myself, but the pedal box was nigh on inaccessible (which is why I think the dealers never managed to fix it).

edited to add, the problem with mine was the pivot on the clutch pedal itself. There will be more than one pivot in any clutch set up, whether mechanical or hydraulic. I'm not sure which one pti was referring to.

try oiling some bits and see if it helps

We've had some horrid things go wrong with cars lately, expecting big bills and a bit of wd40 or similar has solved all sorts of bangs and knocks

Had a similar issue with a notchy/squeaky clutch on an Alfa GT JTD. Clutch actuating arm from top of gearbox needed to be removed and some grease/oil to be dribbled down the shaft. Spraying some grease under the rubbers behid the clutch also helped too. Hope you find the source soon as it's a pain in the

Paper over the mats and a can of penetrating oil with the long thin tube inserted and try and get it up to the pivots on the pedal box. Leave the paper there until it's all dripped off.

Really is - Keep trying to covince myself it isn't a big deal (and it really isn't). But it is really annoying! Especially living in London with lots of stop start traffic.

Serious question - I only bought the car two weeks ago from a Mazda main dealer (2008, 37,000 miles Mazda + 1 owner, full Mazda service history and 12 months Mazda warranty) do you think they would sort it out for me? Concerned they might say if you want one that doesn't squeak you should have bought a new one. A nuisance because the garage is about 100 miles from where I live, I didn't notice it on the test drive and the car otherwise seems perfect.
