Mystery Oil Puddle - Peug 208

Over the last few weeks I have noticed what seems to be an oil puddle increasing in size under her car when parked in the garage. The oil level has been checked several times and seems to be fine, and as far as I can tell it isn't petrol - ie it is thick and oil like!

Can anyone less stump up an explanation for what this might be, and where it is coming from?

Leaky gearbox? My experience of gearbox oil is that it smells very different to engine oil.

Edit: or diff oil?

Gearbox oil is a good call - it doesn't have a separate diff oil. Could it be PAS fluid?

Gearbox lubricant which could be oil or transmission fluid depending what the spec is? Leaking from the seals where the driveshaft goes into the box? Won't show up on the engine oil dipstick.
As said above, check the pas fluid reservoir & look for leaks on the steering rack & its pipework.

207 had electric steering so I imagine the 208 will have too.

try placing a bit of a4 paper where you expect it to drip and then look at the paper, might look different on a bit of white paper compared to the floor

is it still under warranty?

If it's got a TU engine it's probably the oil gallery part of the head gasket leaking

It's 75w80 fully synth oil used in all manual PSA boxes for 10+ years.

It doesn't, all the 208's are EB/EP or DV engines now. The gasket problem was fixed (for a reasonable lifetime as with other cars) in the facelift 206 with the TU5JP4 when they changed the rocker gaskets to something a bit more substantial.

If you think that high to low on the dipstick is probably a litre, and then imagine how big a puddle you'd get if you poured a whole litre of oil onto the ground, you can get quite a big mark on the ground without the level going down very noticeably on the dipstick.

As others have said, parking over a sheet of paper or cardboard, then trying to see what bit of the car is over the oil mark before you move the car might help to track it down.
