I know we have covered oil pressure ad nauseum before but I have encountered a somwhat different problem. Oil pressure on my 98' 500 starts at 45 p.s.i when cold then reverts to 15 - 22 p.s.i when hot. Allegedly this is well within normal parameters. Problem I have is that after my recent clutch change I find that the oil pressure dial will sometimes flutter and then drop off to nothing before then picking up a moment later. Slightly concerned t say the least but I have checked the oil level and it remains at maximum. Assume electrical problem with the pressure switch? but can anyone offer more help?

Many Thanks

I would think electrical rather than actual. Does the oil light come on when it drops off to zero? When does it do this, at idle or when driving along?

I wouldn't worry too much. Just get it checked out for peace of mind.

Paul.

The symptoms, and the fact it started immediately after major work in the engine bay, both suggest it is an electrical problem. I would check for wiring damage out by the sensor and make sure the connector is secure.

Mine to0 starts at around the 45 psi and used to drop to 25-30 when hot at 30mph in 3rd gear. I noticed one day that at that speed it was still around the 40 psi when hot then dropped back to 30 I changed the sender and all is right with the world 40-45 when cold and 30-38 psi when hot.
It was bloody difficult to lay my hands on a sender unit , eventually managed it from those very nice people in Wigan "Gormers" got some torsion drop down links as well just as difficult to find

Gleaming - thanks everyone, I think I can rest a little easier! It happens both at idle and at speed so looks like I need to replace the sender unit just in case. Anyone know where I can easily get one or have a website link?

Many Thanks!
