Boot Sector problem???
Discussion
Trying to do a clean install of Win 98 on a laptop. Gets to a specific point in the install and the following message appears.
BootSector Write
VIRUS: Y or N
And thats it it locks up.
I've tried the fdisk /mbr switch to no avail, brings up the same message. Also tries booting off a win XP cd going into recovery console and running the fixmbr command. That don't work either.
Any ideas anyone?

Is virus protection in the BIOS enabled? Try disabling it.
definatly boot sector virii protection. you wont have seen it before because there would never have been a reason to write to the boot sector until now.
Depending on your BIOS, to access it you will normall need to hit the "del" key or the F2 key (the most common ones) to enter the bios on startup.
