Hi folks, just got my 1985 Porsche 944 Turbo. I'm doing it up at the moment but it's run out of petrol. Am I okay running it on normal unleaded? I only ask because I've always been a Ford man before this and some of the cars 1985 and earlier didn't have the hardened valve seats.

Cheers

If your car has a catalytic converter it won't suit it best to use unleaded.

Just to clarify the last post.... if your car has a catalytic converter YOU WILL DESTROY IT IF YOU USE ANYTHING BUT UNLEADED!!!

Most Porsches of the "modern" era are fine with unleaded. Bear in mind that Germany was using unleaded long before us Brits.

The turbo workshop manual says "96 RON lead-free"

It must be lead free, but need'nt be super unleaded unless you plan on tuning it- if you are going to spend a lot of time at high boost, or thinking of upping the boost then you shuld think about the highest octane you can find.

Hope this helps

Thanks for that guys. I thought it should be unleaded but just wanted to make sure with her being quite an old lady. It has actually been chipped so maybe I should think about Super when I actually get her on the road but she'll just be moving from my garage onto the drive and back for a while so hopefully normal unleaded should be okay.

Cheers
