Just fitted a Brian James tyre rack to my A-Max trailer but I have found it pretty poor for keeping wheel/tyres safe. My car uses staggered wheel sizes so the circumference is smaller on the fronts, this has the effect that the bar clamps down on the bigger tyres but leaves the smaller ones free to move about and even room to come out of the back.

Has anyone else had this issue and how do you use yours?

I had the same issue. I used a rachet strap horizontally around all the tyres and the side of the rack to keep everything in place. Also used another strap to hold the bar down onto the tyres.

Always used the security steel through the wheel centres too.

same, and BJ were not that helpful in showing me how to secure the wheels. I am sure that security wire in the centre is only to prevent theft, does not look strong enough the retain a bouncing wheel.

Let some air out the bigger tyres and ratchet down top in the centre. It'll hold them tight. Also put the big tyres on the outside and the small ones on the inside so if they do move they it's only against he other tyres.

I've been looking at one for my A Max, but it looks like they have discontinued the trailer. Was it still £305 +vat?

The old low tyre racks with fuel storage in the middle, meant you could have different sized wheels each side without a problem. I need to seek mine as the new car is longer and I need all the bed length.

I used the ratchet through the centres and routed down to the trailer bed and ratchet straps round all the wheels laterally as suggested above which seemed to work ok. Not sure how Brian James get away with that S**T mechanism confused

Thanks for all the suggestions
