Hi All,

My 3R has the 6 speed gearbox and i thought it had the limited slip diff, with one wheel on the ground and one in the air i can turn the wheel without any resistance, and i cannot see any red writing on the bellhousing (but it is dirty).

Does this sound like i actually have an open diff fitted? Any other ways to test without removing the gearbox?

Thanks

Matt

Standard test. Quiet stretch of road,(dry concrete is best) then pull away in first gear in a straight
line with sufficient power to spin the wheels. Did you leave a 1 or 11 as evidence to what you've got?

If it's a quaife or similar torque biasing diff, it needs a degree of cross axle preload (ie torque) to operate. They effectively "spin freely" when both wheels are in the air and not driving.

So the drag strip launch and count the rubber lines the only way to tell accurately? Don't like the sound of that!

Think you will find you have limited diff, is the car stamped as a 3R??

Yes it is, but i cannot find the red text that is supposed to be on the bellhousing either.

pretty sure that if you jack the car up and spin a wheel, open diff they turn in opposite directions, LSD they turn together.

what he said... certainly thats exactly what my 5 speed was like... spun opposite directions when no led was fitted, span together after I had fitted one.

The 6 speeds all had LSD

Hi All,

Despite not markings on my 6 speed gearbox, i can confirm it has a LSD, both wheels turn in the same direction once its in the air.

Phew!
