How long does it usually take for you to want a new car?

I have had my MX5 since october and even though i love it and is perfect for my needs at the moment, i just cant stop looking in the classifieds. Thinking of ways i could make a change work, how i could afford it, man maths equations etc..

It is not like all of the cars i look at are a "upgrade". Some of them are known as a bag of st. Managed to stop myself from following up on any of them yet and going for a test drive but it is proving harder by the day.

Is there such thing as carholics anonymous?

Usually about 12-18 months I will get itchy feet and start looking at the auto trader adds. But the wife has laid down the law and this car has to stay for a while, also there is nothing better suited to my needs that wont cost a fortune to change to at the minute.

I want a new car all the time.

Every day it's something new. The key is not to act on impulse, apparently.

I'm not buying anything new until next year, and as I don't need a daily drive, I'll be treating myself to a Range Rover again for some practical comfortable wafting.

Or an E39 M5.

Or an XJR.

Argh.

My record was a week in of Honda Civic ownership went from looking and buying in the space of two weeks. The registration didnt even have chance to arrive for the Civic.

When I only had 1 car, it was all the time.

I justify running several cars to myself because I like variety. I therefore have a small range of car types and it keeps me happy for a long time

I used to be a like this but have calmed down a bit since the kids arrived 3 years ago.

I've been driving for 27 years and averaged 2-3 cars a year.

I need a practical car now and one that is cost efficient to run.

I don't mind too much as I found that even when I had a really nice car, to drive it daily took the appeal away to a certain extent.

I see my daily driver as a comfortable, really economical well equipped family hatch with adequate performance. I'll look after it really well and make some improvements without spending too much.

I'll still look at cars in classifieds which float my boat though but not with a view to buying for a while, more a quick look to see what the prices are doing.

it usually starts at 60,000 miles and gets worse as the miles rack up. The big problem this time was finding something to replace the 335d with. The answer turned out to be another 335d.

I had the Toyota Cressida as the family car for 22 years, & 377,000 kilometers. One of the kids now has it.

I've had my TR7 for over 12 years & about 70,000 Km, & the S2000 for 4 years & about 15,000. As the old advertisement goes, when you're on a good thing, stick to it.

When my car is no longer fit for my intended purpose, I find a different car. This doesn't happen often. So far;

-First car (Clio)
wanted to go racing so
-Second car (Caterham)
wanted to tow the caterham so I changed the Clio
-Third car (Mondeo Diesel)
Mondeo diesel was going to die and I wanted an estate
-Fourth car (525i Touring)

Seven years of motoring, Three road cars and one race car. I don't really suffer the boredom itch as yet.

April last year 2 months in I had it super chipped... Since jan I've been wanting a change.

Here's the but. I will do about 30k p.a this year and the car I'm in is great for that job80% of the time. But I'd still like a change

Three to six months before I start seriously looking around - this happens no matter how much I love the car.

Anywhere from 6 to 24 before I usually change. Any car that I keep for more than a year is doing very well.

I tell the missus she's lucky I'm a total slut when it comes to cars but completely faithful when it comes to women.

I WANT after 6 months and usually change at 24. Current GTS is coming up for 36 and I have seriously itchy feet and an irate Mrs.

With the MR2 it took about 4 months before I was looking at replacements.

With the clio a month
Doesn't help that my insurance has dropped massively and made some rather quick jap stuff quite affordable.

In fact I'm looking at cars right now...
