Is this a garage door / gate sensor ?

Hi
I have recently got myself a Lotus Elise S2. It has what looks like some kind of sensor attached to the front grille, with a wire attached. Inside the car (in the gap between the gearstick & dash) there is a strange cluster of cables with a small switch. (Which doesn't seem to do anything.)

Can anyone advise what it is?
My guess is for automatic garage door / gates ??

Gunn diode. Used for jamming radar speed guns. It's not really, it's too small for the ones i've seen. They were pretty much door entry sensors from above a supermarket door, repurposed.

Any better pics? I thought most of the garage door things are fairly standardised and use RF but maybe not.

That front sensor did have a smooth shiny(ish) plate across the front until it dropped off with my fiddling!!

Will perhaps give the cable a gentle yank to see if these 2 parts do connect!
