Ever feel like you've 'missed out' on some cars?

Right, a bit of history. 21 years old and since I passed i've been driving an MG ZR 1.4, fine first car! Then moved onto a MK2 MX5, 1.6, fairly modified etc etc but it seemed to attract people to crash in to it so it was written off. Now driving at 21, an S14a 200SX running around 300bhp, nice mods etc etc!
Now, when I was 17, I wanted a nice MR2, non turbo etc. then maybe a MK1 focus RS or something along those lines.
But having gone from the MG to the 200SX in such a short timescale It's kind of put me off other cars.
I've still got a thing for an MR2, though it'd be the turbo. I've had a shot of a MK1 RS and whilst it's great, I can't justify the price over what I have justnow. I also looked at the GT86 last year, had a test drive and it's a great car. But £26/27K for a car that does the same thing as the 200SX, but slower, more refined and a bit sharper but it feels like a RWD cliosport (Not a bad thing).
It's annoying, as there's a fair few cars that I'd like to try, but being young insurance is expensive which makes swapping cars a nuisance.
The only steps I really want to take would be an upgrade to something like a Skyline, RX7, M5 etc (Can't justify them at the moment) or the other way with Lotus Elise', GTM Libra, so on so forth!
Anyone been in the same boat?

My first car was a 1.2 Clio. My second was a Caterham. I was so utterly spoiled by the Caterham that I now have barely any interest in fast road cars at all!
Oh, and before I got the Caterham I nearly bought a very nice looking Atlantic Blue '73 BMW 2002 for £1,500. Nowadays, straight 2002s seem to fetch about 3x that!

Every time i drive into a multistory car park, or somewhere with large pillars/small bays, i wish i was back in a hatchback.
But then after the flooding, i'm glad i don't.
I don't think you can ever miss out on a car- bar things like not buying an F40 2 years ago, or selling your F1 5 years ago. You can always find one you want, if you can afford it.

It was a toss-up between an EP3 CTR or an e46 330 when I finished uni and finally had some decent disposable income. I went for the 330 but ended up regretting it a little as I thought I'd missed out on the hot hatch phase.
Bought a 3.2 TT after that (not my smartest move but great soundtrack).
Now I'm in an MR2 turbo. My cars seem to be getting less sensible as I get older...

Nissan 350Z, loved the look and the sound, just really appealed to me - but when they were all shiny and new I couldn't afford one - now I probably can, although I haven't looked at the prices recently, I almost dared dream about one a year ago - I thought get one now whilst the boy is small enough to fit in the back, but big enough to sort himself out belts wise - then the Wife said "darling we're expecting" and BAM here comes another diesel estate car, I love it, but it's no sport car.
Now I'm day dreaming about when our daughter 4-5 and might just fit in the back of a 5-6 year old GT86, I'm taking no chances this time - I'm getting the snip before this one is born.

I see a slight flaw here ...I think a couple people are missing the point here 
It's not so much the monetary aspect to it, though that does play a big part. I'm meaning more skipping the 'steps'. I don't enjoy hot hatchbacks and that as much now I've gone from the MG>MX5>200SX.
Thing's like golf GTI/Focus RS/Fiesta ST etc all feel decidedly 'meh' now, annoyingly.
It's not so much the monetary aspect to it, though that does play a big part. I'm meaning more skipping the 'steps'. I don't enjoy hot hatchbacks and that as much now I've gone from the MG>MX5>200SX.

I'm cough..43..cough so my list of missed cars is quiet long but most notably for me, 300zx twin turbo, also Toyota Supra twin turbo and to a lesser degree Mitsubishi 3000GT. Any one of those would have ticked a box I really wanted to tick.
Currently the E39 M5 is just slipping by me as I've always admired them, I'm in the market for a thirsty V8 of a certain age but will probably have to get an estate so S4 or C55 means I'll probably miss the bimmer.

I know what you mean, went from parents car to mk3 mr2. Cant really ever see getting a heavier fun car than it, and couldn't imagine going back to FWD or even Front engined again, although some of caterhams offerings may convert me when I get the chance! Or a Alfa tz2...
So for me its easy - s1 elise. I just want more agility and even sharper responses, and the added power (well per tonne) will be nice as well.
And from there? BAC Mono or 60s Leman prototype...naturally.
I do feel like I've missed the hot hatch stage - I couldn't have my main fun car anything but RWD mid engined now - its too much fun! And my current needs are so small in terms of boot space and the like, I can just use the MR2 daily. If I need a workhorse of a car Ill probably go for something cheap and sheddy - rather than something PHy.
But when I'm old I look forward when I need a small runabout with a boot and things, then I can go ahead and get my 18 year old want of a hot hatch. Abarth 500 or the like - fun and frisky for the trip to the shops and picking up Christmas trees that a sports car wouldn't be suited for.
