No, not the knob behind the wheel.
I have a control on the lower right of my 2001 4.5LW dashboard that has no knob on it:

Any idea what it might be? Does anyone else have one?

The best the supplying dealer could come up with was "leave it alone - something to do with the air conditioning".

Could this be the thermostat to control the temperature of the aircon output?

I was told that the 'knob' was an access point for the engine diagnostic computer - so who's right?

yes it is for air con.
Thanks. Do you know exactly what it does?

Oh, and have you got one as well?

I've one in my S6 and I've got air conditioning fitted. However, dealer told me he didn't know what it was for!

Sounds like the knob to adjust the temp of the air-con...

According to my dealer (Walldonway), depending on who fitted the switch at the factory, you might, or might not have the switch visible. For those with air-con, but no switch, you'll probably find it's Zip tied to the roll cage.....

Speaking of unidentified knobs, if anyone knows the tit in the white cavalier GSI that INSISTS on sitting in my boot on the way to work in a morning and then thrashing the paps off the poor thing in an attempt to impress me on Alfreton Hill..........Please ask him if his planet is full and if not to sod off back to it!!!

Yes, that is the control for the temp of the aircon.... If your air-con works - LEAVE IT ALONE !

If your aircon works well for 10-15 mins, then gets warmer & warmer, you need to turn it down a bit (can't remember which way you need to turn it) because the system is iceing up....

Does anyone know how to turn the aircon up ie make it colder? Our car is new and we will get the dealer to do it if necessary but it works very well for about 30 minutes and then gets warmer.

That means its set too cold ???? (basically, the air-con is so cold, it slowely freezing a pipe somewhere). Adjust the "knob" about a 1/4 of a turn & see if it gets better or worse (longer or shorter). If it's worse, turn it 1/2 a turn the other way...

Ok we will try that. We will post the direction of the knob to be turned and if it does not work either way we will advise what the dealer does to get it to work

I had a good look yesterday and we do not have the switch!!! It appears to be on the chassis under the covering. We will let our dealer sort it out but we will watch while they do it and post the results. The aircon is now not working at all although the electrics appear fine.

We took the C5RBY to the dealer this morning and they fixed the aircon to the extent that the temperature from the steering wheel vent was only +1degree centigrade and it works fine. The problem was a lack of gas preventing the switch from coming on. This could be because the factory did not put the whole 1kg in during assembly or we may have a leak somewhere.

On our model (May 2002 Red Rose) there is no temperature adjustment switch in the footwell or on the chassis in that area. You have it full whack or not and can only adjust the air flow using the fan switch. It is a bit primitive but it was ok for us in traffic and with a fairly high outside temperature - in fact we had to open the window to thaw out!!

Thanks Tony

We had not seen that plate for sale and will investigate. We purchased 'C5RBY' from the Bell's of Viper fame but we have three other non TVR cars and could put it on one of those.
