This isn't a Guinness World Record. Let's make that clear from the off. For that 30 Hennessey Venoms would need to be built to qualify it as a production car (oddly, only 29 are to be made), a two-way average would be needed and a Guinness official has to be present. Big, wide airfields makes speed look slow, right? Not here!
Instead, this video is just a phenomenal display of speed. The recorded terminal velocity of 270.49mph amazingly isn't the most startling part, it's the ridiculous acceleration. From 100mph to 250mph, the Venom is just relentless; it appears the video has stopped with the gearchange pauses such is the ferocity with which it piles on speed. Even the final 20mph is accrued pretty swiftly.
There's plenty of patriotic flag-waving (literally and figuratively!) for America in Hennessey's video, but that shouldn't detract from a stunning achievement. When can we drive one?

What I find interesting is that according to this, Guinness dont count it as a production car, as they are only making 29 of them........
HOWEVER
Last year, Guinness Recognised the Venom GT as the Fastest 2 seater PRODUCTION car for 0-300kmh
So have Guinness change the regs to be counted as a production car? or have Hennessey reduced the amount of cars they are planning on building?

it may be an achievement. Maybe. For me a record breaking road car is made by a manufacturer that builds cars rather than putting together bits from other cars. I am happy to accept Pagani and McLaren as exceptions (outsourced engines, but at least fantastic engines), but this leaves me totally cold. In 10 years time you'll be able to buy one (probably the only one...) for £30k maximum after it will have failed to sell at an auction.

I think it was contested by Bugatti and then redacted by Guiness.HOWEVER

Although I see where you are coming from, that to me is an oversimplification of what has been done here and I don't see why a tuning garage who's car is pretty much a ground up build could just be reduced to "putting together bits from other cars."Built not bought! Haters gonna hate! And other cheeky bumper stickers.
This is a massive piece of PR for Hennessy and I suppose they need it with all their unhappy customers.

By this definition, Lotus have only 'built' 2 models, the 4cyl. and V8 esprits

I don't think Bugatti need worry, I suspect the Veyron's bonnet edge doesn't flap above 200 and I imagine the gear change is much nicer, looked like my old Cavalier gearbox! :-)
I doubt Bugatti and Hennessey are selling to the same customers.Great achievement for Hennessey, but those gearshifts were awful, maybe it was the driver, the gearbox didn't seem to give Matt Farah any trouble, although admittedly he wasn't going for a flat-out high speed run.
The Kennedy stuff makes me cringe.

But as they've made less than 30, does it need to pass all the homologation tests that an actual production car has to (particularly emissions)? Those are the rules that the Veyron has to play by.
If it does have to pass those, then it's a fantastic achievement. If it it doesn't have to pass them, then it's not really an achievement at all. RV3 can go faster and is street legal.

I sometimes don't think the Venom GT gets the love it deserves on PH.
They have basically taken a Lotus Exige which is one of the most PH cars you can buy, made the styling even more like a race car and then given it a 1000bhp V8! If it had a Noble badge on it everyone would be waving Union flags. Obviously it wont compete with the P1, LaFerrai, 918 in many areas but take it on face value.. Same went for the Saleen S7, one of my favourite supercars but little coverage in the UK.
The Venom look far better with the wing though:

It's not even reregistered. It's still a "modified Lotus Exige" on the registration document. 
I'm not sure that RV3 can go faster though? It wasn't built for top-speed. Various stupidly tuned Ford GTs, amongst other things, can though.
