Delivery date delay - option to cancel?

Having been promised a delivery date for May for a RRS - have been advised today now likely to be August.
Am I able to cancel the order at this stage? Only desposit has been paid, although unclear if this in non refundable.
Order was placed early Feb - no sure I want to wait 6 months.

If you really want a new RRS, then you probably haven't got a lot of choice, unless you pay a premium.
I'd be asking for a few sweetners to make up for the delay. Such as a cheap servicing package, roofbars, towbar etc. etc. anything that the dealer can fit or chuck in, which won't affect the production of the vehicle.
Very annoying though, I'd be vexed.

I have had this before, once I explained that I was only keeping it for a few months and then selling it on, so it arriving 6 months later than agreed meant it was useless to me, they refunded the deposit.

Having checked the paperwork it does say the deposit is non refundable, however I have only paid the initial £2k (which I believe was required to get the ball rolling and secure the slot) I don't want to lose it obviously. The order gives an expected delivery date of 7th May and this was verbally agreed at the time with the dealer. There is a clause that offers a get out if the order isn't delivered 3 months after the expected delivery date.
If the dealer is telling you that delivery is pushed back to August it means they haven't placed the order on the factory yet - i.e. they don't have a slot for it yet. Your order may be in the holding pool but there is no commitment from the dealer, the factory haven't even accepted it yet. He should just refund your deposit, after all he will have no issues selling another car to fill that slot.

I don't understand why a dealer would want to create ill will when he can sell the car with no problems. Our problem is getting enough cars, not finding people to buy them!

I haven't looked at one of these for a while and a more professionsal dealer group may have tightened things up, but the usual get out is the contract generally allows the dealer to walk away for almost any reason, so the contract can be considered to be "unfair".As long as the car you have ordered is nothing too fancy, I am sure the dealer can still sell it and there would be no reason a car that is still very desirable and commands long delivery dates you will not get your deposit back.

I've even managed to get it on a 14-plate and I'm really looking forward to it.

Update- have spoken to the dealer. Delays due to 2nd quarter allocations. Apparently all UK dealers are affected? I'd be interested to know if anyone else has experienced this recently.
He admitted it was a very frustrating situation and offered a full refund. Having reflected on the situation I think I'm going to wait it out. Orders being taken today are being offered build slots of Sept/Oct.

And for the trade in value to still be honoured, if necesary a vehicle or some contribution towards a vehicle if there is a gap (car goes back in May as you have a new car - which you don't have)I'd be asking for a few sweetners to make up for the delay. In this case, you may wish to consider pushing out a further month for a 2015 model year car. Depends on the dealer, his allocation and his order bank. I still have one May Sport available and it's changeable through today. And I have a months shipping factored in.
