Hi all,

I'm looking to go back to 14" wheels for my mx5. But the tyre choice is limited.

Does anyone have any experience with either of these tyres?

Both cheap as chips and both get good reviews on various websites. I'm looking for an all round tyre that will be good on track. I can't justify the specialised track tyres and I have to drive to and from the tracks whatever the weather.

Alternatively, anyone got a better tyre for the under £60 mark as another option?

Thanks,
Chris

I fitted a set of the Goodyear EGPs to my old 5-series a couple of weeks ago. Objectively speaking, they're great tyres- lightweight, quiet, comfortable, astoundingly grippy... but subjectively? Pretty numb and uncommunicative. Not that sharp on turn-in. I suspect the Dunlops might be better in that respect, but worse at the other stuff!

Bridgestone usually do good road/circuit-friendly tyres - well my S02s certainly are.

I don't like the sound of 'uncommunicative' for a track car so I'll stay clear of those.

I'm trying vredistein sportrac5 on advice from nutz forum.

Thanks for the advice though.

The Goodyears are tolerable on my 5-series but as you say not really a tyre I'd recommend for track driving.

I bet the Vreds will turn out to be good, let us know.

P.S. I agree with the other poster's sentiments that Bridgestones would probably be pretty good too, and probably Yokohamas.

I've been happy with various Vredes in the past. Dutch, smaller manufacturer, seem to sell off reputation rather than expensive marketing - a decent balance between cost and performance, ime.
