I have a turbo motor which is configured with a mushroom filter on each rocker. This annoyingly means that I get a small amount of oil pressurised out of the filters.

I also have acquired (Cheers Neal) a catch can. Itis a simple affair with a large pipe and smaller pipe coming out of the top. Having fittted electric PAS pump I now have room to fit it, but before I do I wanted to check if it isworth it having read some poor reports of such devices ao, a couple of questions.

1) is it worth it, or should I be looking at a different solution?
2) I was looking to use the larger pipe as the inlet to the tank (with a T piece to connect to each rocker cover) with the small pipe as an outlet. I will run a pipe from outlet to somewhere at the rear of the car to dispense with fumes. Is this rightway roumd?
3) the catch tank has nothing in it. Would it benefit with being stuffed with something. Sure I have read somewhere that this is of benefit.

Cheers,

Matt

Hoofa recommended this to me:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mishimoto-Baffled-Oil-Ca...

£100 less if you buy it in USA.

This is the ultimate, mine will be going on when it arrives.....

Leave the stock, working and proven set up alone IMO

I run a pipe from each cover to a Y piece then into the catch tank.

I have a small filter at the outlet of the catch tank.

After 2 TDs, it has collected 2-3mm of oil in the tank.

Alex. What do you mean by standard - piped back into plenum?

This is Neal's old Turbo motor so pretty far from standard.

Current set up sprays oil on my rocker covers. Can't see any downsides with giving catch tank a go. Worst case oil and fumes go straight through and exit at the back of car/perhaps into a second containert Am I wrong.....?

Phazed, thanks for the info on yours, this is what i was planning.

Supercharged - cheers, will check it out.

Great sugestion Silicon and thanks for photos. I have a 4 week old so looking forward to 15 year constant supply of rags once ahe starts growing out of stuff. (2nd and last one).

Mind you, I know nappies are good at sucking up oil. Often used by the sailing fraternity to suck up oily water from bilges.

Not sure what the Mrs would say if I started putting nappies on the TVR tho. She already thinks I spent more time with her than her.....

Hi Matt,

What I was going to do was take the rockers off and get 2 AN connectors welded on then link these to a catch can and stick it down the front in the nose cone with the biggest filters you can on there. (dont need AN but hey they look nice)

Would probably modify the existing catch can you have to have the filters that were on the rockers on that instead

Things need to breath when they are turbo'd.

Get some pics up smile

Cheers All,

So while my longer term plan is as Neal described, I don't fancy pulling the front of the car to bits again to fit the catch can in the nose just yet - I only recently put it all back together again after fitting an elec power steering pump. Instead, for now, I have the driver side rocker venting through the catch can with a filter on (This is the one that throws out the most oil - Due to throw of the crank?). The near side now is piped under the car, again venting through a filter.

I was going to tee both banks into the catch can, but Neal scared me off that idea..

Hopefully won't blow up and will prevent oil around the engine bay. Not the most beautiful solution, but should do the job for now.

Oh and a photo just for you Neal... Still loving the motor, must have done about 6000 miles now.

Apologies to the 'polishing engine' folk, I will never have the most shiny engine bay around these parts smile

Good to hear its going well...so probably about 10,000 miles on that engine now then and for people who said de-comp plates dont work there you go.

With that engine running 550lbft its again good proof that the gearbox and diff can take some abuse in such a lightweight car.

Why did I sell that engine lol banghead
