Hello,

Thinking of getting my first surround sound set up. Coming from a background where my dad would spend £££££ on his hifi and home cinema, Iv been spoilt with quality.

Looking to get the Monitor Audio Mass, wondered if anyone recommends it on here. The only thing puts me off is the 200w active sub, which im not sure if it's man enough, but then I dont want to spend more the £600 on speakers?

Thanks

Ian

I'd go second hand - I picked up a set of Mordaunt Short Alumni (4 surrounds and centre) speakers in as new condition with wall mounts for £175, and spent £300 on an unsold KEF Kube-2 sub at my local friendly hi-fi shop.

I believe the KEF is 200w, and by christ does it kick out some bass!

As with most things, its not the size it is what you do with it!

MA Subs are quite powerful for their size and matched well to both the Mass and Radius Systems.

Deals can be had on here as well if you know where to ask wink

I auditioned the MASS system and was very impressed for the price. In the end I spent a little more and went with a 5.0 Radius HD system from VEX (thanks!) and added a BK Gemini II sub. I think the sub is probably the weak point of the system (I probably should have gone for an XXL400) but otherwise it's great.

You may well find a BK sub second hand on the AVforums classifieds as they often come up. Then you might get an XLS400 for the price of an XLS200. I'm putting up my Monolith DF with the upgraded driver on shortly and hope to get about £300 for it if that's any guide (I've built a pair of sealed 15" subs to replace it).

(Just read the trading rules as you have to keep all offers on the thread not via PM):
