A little help please!
I have owned my Merc GL for 7 years from new, have put 120,000 miles on it and have really enjoyed it's versatility. It has been across Europe a few times, transports the entire family, our luggage and the dog all over the UK without ever missing a beat. But the time has come to say goodbye.
We now have another big 4x4 in the family in the shape of an X5 and I am looking to get something a bit more fun now that the kids are a bit older and don't need to travel with prams, high chairs, nappies travel cots and any other baby paraphernalia.
I have decided to go for 2 cars (not as extravagant as it sounds, I will explain) I will still need to transport the muddy dog, collect logs for the fire, take rubbish to the tip and many other utilitarian functions that i don't want to do in a "nice" car so I have already selected a battered and tired but apparently mechanically sound Landy Defender. What i want suggestions on is car number 2.
I need 4 seats, plenty of power and loads of style. something like the E60 M5 with a low mileage and decent service history or, anything else you might suggest? The budget can be stretched to a maximum of £40K. I don't much care about the mpg and i expect the insurance not to be cheap. I am too young for an old Bently GT and I don't fancy anything too flamboyant.

Test the M5, I have one and it ticks all your boxes.
It fits the wife, 2 teenage daughters (and the associate luggage/ballast) with ease in huge comfort, press a button when I'm out on my own and it's epic.
Still makes me smile every time I start the V10.
