BT Broadband Filters

It seems that every few days the little modem status arrows on my toolbar stop lighting and sit at idle when I try to connect to the net.

I've tried unplugging the modem from the computer etc., but the only way I've found to get it working again is to swap the DSL filter over to the other identical one that came in the pack. But then a few days later the same usually happens again.

Any idea why it's happening?
