Basic mounting advice

I'm looking to get one of my prints done for our wall. I've got a frame with acrylic 'glass' which has a mount for a 28x20 photo. Now i've not mounted any photos before, and dont want to spend £xx on a print to find it looks terrible because its not done properly!
I have seen some high gloss landscape shots (Cibachrome style) which I would like but I dont know if they'll be wasted on a frame with acrylic glass, and also whether or not they are particularly hard to mount. Obvious alternative is to stick with a lustre finish.
Is it best to get the supplier to mount it or is it easy enough done at home?
