4.3 Griff dBa ?
Discussion
Any one got any idea what dBa a 4.3 is and if it possible to get it under 100 for track days ??
Does anyone on here track a 4.3 ?
I have yet to track mine but due to a recent re shuffle in the toy cupboard the griff is now the best bet and I've always fancied going sideways legally !
Cheers
ps any essential mods for the track ?

Act Products do silencers to whack in the Exhaust for track days. I think it depends on what Track you go to as there are different levels of Noise allowed
Think they also hire them too

My standard 4.3 came in at 99.6 dBA at Castle Combe! Just 'legal'. Had it tested again later in the day, and it was 96bdBA - due to different temperature/wind conditions and being further away from a concrete wall. Then I stuck on my home-modified tail pipe silencers, and got it down to 87 dBA!
My home-modded jobbies are straight through cans like the Merlin ones, with home-made tailpipe restrictors (with hindsight, probably overkill...) as the diameter on mine is larger than the Merlins.
ACT do stainless versions, and Tower View will make inserts which kind of make the car whistle. The exhaust note sounds like an air leak! But they do get the dBA down, and avoid making the car look like a wheel-barrow.
As for mods, if you've got the original pre-cat nose, make sure your number plate isn't covering any of the air intake at the front, that the cooling system and braking system are in great shape, and that your rocker covers aren't leaking oil. If they are, revs and cornering will lead to smoke pouring out from under the bonnet, and a man with a reflective jacket waving at you with black flag...
Check the tyre pressures and it's worth checking the wheel nuts after every run.
If you slide around in the seat, you might want to think about 4 point harnesses, but then you really need a roll cage to provide the anchor points.
Basically make the sure the car's reliable and safe.

I'll go and have a chat with merlin
They'll let you try before you buy
CC aren't as strict as they're made out to be - they let through a 911 at 102dB on the day. Just said they'd keep an eye on him (in the aural sense presumably) whilst on track and make sure he didn't stand out.
