So I need superglue and a few hex keys so I'm in the 99p shop this morning,
On the way out I pass Ringo crisps I love them so grabbed a bag of 6, then two Pepsi max bottles for a quid and as I couldn't be bothered going to boots a chicken tikka sarnie for £1 !
So for £3 I had 2 drinks and 6 bags if crisps and a sarnie. Roughly calculated as £1.65 for lunch if one drink and one pack of crisps is consumed - surely the cheapest lunch anywhere ? And the sarnie was at least fresh if not packed with chicken.
Will I go to hell? (Guts are ok)

You won't go to hell but you will probably get Diabetes hehe No wonder this country is in the midst of an obesity epidemic, it's so much cheaper to eat unhealthy food. You can buy a ridiculous amount of chocolate, crisps and fizzy drinks for little outlay!

This isn't a personal attack by the way, merely an observation.

To at least some degree, a fallacy. It has plenty to do with lack of understanding and something that's somewhere between lack of time & good, old fashioned laziness.
The occasions I buy lunch now remind me of that (and don't even taste good either). In fact I'd rather have old school canteen food TBH than poxy attempts at interesting cardboard.

I completely understand the lack of time/ laziness aspect, it's just the fact you can buy a multipack of crisps for a pound.

That said, if you lack the willpower to not eat in moderation then you probably deserve to be fat!

Not that simple (having been somewhat large smile).

The point is, you can buy 2 lunches worth of chicken & salad for 3 quid, even going the prepared & packaged route (not even considering value type stuff). Add in 3 quids worth of mayo, munchies or whatever (which last a week) and you don't have to go nuts for something that's far healthier and tastes better than lowest level production values.

Now if you were talking pie, chips, peas & gravy..... hehe

Eating a healthy lunch isnt difficult.

Bag of salad from Tesco - 75p - lasts 2 lunches
Tin of Tuna - 50 to 75P
Hot sauce - £1 a bottle - Lasts a fair few lunches (10)

Averages out at £1.10 per lunch leaving change for something else, I usually opt for a yoghurt.

^^ That's barely a snack though. Most people wouldn't get enough energy from that. At least add in some rice/taters/bread.

How cheap are we going to get here? a 31p 400g packet of rich tea biscuits tesco smart price. 100g is 455cals, which is as much as most chicken & bacon sandwiches that cost about £2. So you could eat this over 4 days at 7.75p a day. Pour yourself some tap water at work to drink with it.

haha, oh dearlaugh

And while we're on the subject of health, a whole packet is around 1820cals. so you could live off 31p a day and still lose weight! rotate

I get my carb energy in the morning with a bowl of porridge which is equally cheap, 50p for a big bag of oats from Aldi and then just made with water.

If you want a cheap lunch, make some dal and rice. Add a little chutney and lime pickle for extra flavour and a slice of ham if you're feeling extravagant.

I remember reading in a paper recently that the cheapest meal is a toast sandwich, sounds grim!

Makes the £3.20 Boots meal deal (sandwich, yoghurt and smoothie) I had yesterday seem extravagant. Ham and cheese sandwiches made with home made bread today, plus a banana. No idea how much it costs me to make bread though, probably more than I can buy a loaf from the supermarket for.

I've taken to bringing in my own lunches (although not the healthiest)

Monday evening I had sausage and chips - the 2 extra sausages were cooked with the rest, brought into work, heated in the microwave and I bought a half baton baguette for 50p - squirt of ketchup and all good...50p sausage cost, 50p baguette and 10p ketchup = £1.10p lunch

Tuesday night I wrapped chicken breasts in bacon - I then cooked up the remainder that evening and got another half baguette - 50p Bacon, 50p Bread and 10p ketchup = another £1.10 lunch

Today - I baked a potato last night - 30p cooked up some reduced price turkey - 70p (half a pack) and some mayo - £1.10

Cheap lunches are brilliant!

Me too.

A 500g bag of wholegrain oats costs a whopping 39p from Lidl. At 40 grams oats per portion of porridge, that makes 12 breakfasts at 3.5p a go.

Personally I like to pimp it up a little with a scattering of Lidl's 'Berries and Cherries' dried fruit mix at £1.29 for 150g.

Call it 20p all in for a generous breakfast.

I know that prices aren't comparable to the UK, but a large chain of restaurants where I am, Andys, does a lunch deal which takes some beating. They have a different set lunch every weekday, and it rotates between odd and even weeks, so essentially there are ten variations repeated twice monthly,

An example of this Monday's option is, Chicken Noodle Soup, Vegetable Salad, Chicken with potatoes and bacon in a cream sauce, fresh baked bread and 200ml of your choice of juice. All this for about £1.85 at the current exchange rate.
