Bought a '58 MCS recently from an independent dealer. First CD I inserted into the single disc player is now stuck since the eject feature plainly doesn't work and the unit is now displaying 'cd error'. BMW has quoted £572 to replace the unit and reprogram (WTF!). Garage from whom I purchased doesn't want to know. I'm unwilling to pay through the nose - what should I do??!

The R56 stereo is a pain in the arse. I have not heard of reliability issues though.

You could probably get a new/ secondhand unit from ebay.

You need to take apart much of the dash to get to the stereo. (44 screws in total, if I remember correctly). I cannot quite remember what it all looks like but it is doable in a couple of hours. (i was installing a parrot kit in mine rather than replacing the CD unit)

This is why MINI are probably charging so much!

Perhaps try disconnecting the battery, reconnecting and then try to eject?

If not, leave it and use an MP3 player via the aux in sockect (infront of the gear stick).
