Seat belt mounting points, few!
Discussion
Just a quick word regards seat belt fixings, BE CAREFULL, I've spent half a day drilling out the N/S front outer bolt,
What a pain.
O/s all out ok but just one bolt has taken more time than all the others put together.
I'm considering replacing all bolts with Stainless! Yes there expensive but so much stronger.
That doesn't cause any issues with the mild steel the bolts will thread into does it. Thanks in advance.

Are they stronger ?I thought "normal" A2 or A4 were a lower tensile strength that "standard" 8.8 bolts
(I know seat belt bolts are imperial but similar grade to 8.8 metric I believe?)
Daft idea I've already dispelled using stainless!
Yes I will be replacing riggers Anthony, maybe the whole chassis, depends on what I find.
I've still to thrash out a deal to use my mates garage, should know by tomorrow.
I've read then re read then read again some more on taking the body off, I've identified every nut and bolt.
Engine bay will be easy, its like new under there.
I just want to get on with it now.

Yep I've seen them on replacement riggers Anthony, I've drilled the bolt out until its flush with the body and haven't damaged the thread so I'll finish it off when body is out the way.
My car has been leaking for years by the looks of the carpets and every bolt head was rusty as a rusty thing!

Alun, if you're serious about a body lift then I'd be willing to lend a hand as I've not done one before and mine will need it at some stage (hopefully not too soon) and IIRC you're in Rugby. I'm only in Market Harborough and I'm fairly handy with a spanner so may be beneficial for both of us.
That sounds good Tyre tread, yes I'm serious about it, if I can the car will be in the garage this wk end!
I have some work commitments to consider and I'm not rushing it so ill pm you when I've got the green light.
I'm hoping I can use the garage at night so a few evenings we could get together and work it all out.
I've had the car two years and only now that I'm getting serious about the lift have I really looked at the car details,, its all pretty basic but getting stuff apart can be a bugger.
No matter how hard some bolts may be to undo I'm going to enjoy every second of it.
Tyre tread, am I right in thinking you rally drive, if so f
k the Chimeara just come over and I'll ask you how you do it. Lol
I'll let you know then as its always good to share ideas etc.
regards Al

Some people think I rally drive but it's just my usual driving stylee
I'm also an Alan BTW.
I have commitments most of this w/e but happy to pop over and have a look see at what's involved and what might be best to plan 'while you're there'.
I have an old Rover P5B and last winter I changed the subframe - sounds easier than it was - so I've honed my tinkering skills but I'm no master mechanic.

Most the work is just common sense Alan, P5B????
Isn't that the coupe shape, low roof line and fast back, brilliant car I loved them as a kid.
There was a saloon and a Coupe. Mine's the Coupe. Same engine as the Chim. In fact mine has the block from a Chim in it.Most the work is just common sense Alan, P5B????

One of these:

I have done away with the seat belt mount into the outrigger bracket on my Griff rebuild.
Couldn't come up with a rust proof floating anchor nut design and didn't want the phaff and hassle with trying to rebuld a fixed point on the outrigger to fit the body accurately.
My solution can only be used though if during your chassis renovation some under floor seat mounts are added.

Was wandering around Willow Sprouts Cars workshops the other day, and noticed that they add some sheet steel bits, welded onto the chassis under where the seats mount, when they do a body off refurb. Sounds like a good plan to me - the seats are only anchored by four smallish bolts through the fibreglass.
