Just flogged my PS3 as I never used it for gaming.

Need to buy a blu-ray player and wonder if there are any that'll work like Apple TV so you can tap the icon on your iPad video and jump the picture onto your television?

I've read a few reviews for players from Samsung, Panny and Sony which say they work with DNLA devices, but I've not found one which say it'll specifically mirror iOS devices.

I'm hoping to flog my ATV as well and just have the one unit under my TV. Only ever use the ATV for mirroring youtube etc or showing pictures to my family.

Regards,
Greg

iOS devices only work with other Apple devices, as their devices use their own proprietary protocol. They are not a member of the DLNA alliance, they are pretty much the only manufacturer not to be. Guess it's part of their locking-down of the ecosystem strategy.

Edit: Apparently that's not strictly true, you need to look for devices that are AirPlay-compatible. Which manufacturers support that I do not know.

Yes, many stereos and AV receivers support Apple Airplay and it's very good. It works very well. I have several airplay devices around my house.

I don't know which blu ray players support it though, but maybe a retailer like John Lewis will allow you to filter results to devices that support Airplay. Must admit, I've not seen a bluray player that supports Airplay before, usually only AV receivers. Apple TV is cheap though...

Thanks for the help.

I think you're both right that Apple don't allow anything other than Apple TV to do the iPad mirroring.

I'll jsut have to stick to plugging into the TV.

Thinking this player is a pretty good shout.
