Re: BMW M Forum pet hate of M badges on non M cars......

Its Mercedes capitalising on the halo effect of the AMG brand, similarly with BMW.
I don't find it particularly irritating, but it does, by definition, dilute the brand.I do find the seemingly British obsession with appearance over ability wearisome demonstrated by the sheer volume of over-tyred tiny capacity diesel rep mobiles, especially Mercedes and BMW products one sees.
I prefer my AMG debadged.

I've noticed that a lot of non-franchise used car dealers add these badges on to cars that have AMG bits. So, while my wife's A250 AMG Sport does not have any AMG badging currently, I bet that when we sell it on and it pops up via auction at an indy, it'll have a liberal smattering of them applied.

Indeed. Tellingly the only tim level available should you want a C250 CDI is "AMG Sport Edition", which sounds terribly naff. Apart from not having the requisite sum of cash (which doesn't seem much of an impediment these days), the only thing putting me off an E63 AMG estate is the sheer garishness of the thing. The E28 and E34 M5s had it right: all-but-invisible power.I don't find it particularly irritating, but it does, by definition, dilute the brand.I do find the seemingly British obsession with appearance over ability wearisome demonstrated by the sheer volume of over-tyred tiny capacity diesel rep mobiles, especially Mercedes and BMW products one sees.
