Not using the TVR as much as I'd like.

Mainly due to having 2 Children ;-)

Thinking the SL55 would work as with the passenger seat forwards, it looks like it would seat one child forward/one rear. (12 and 11 years old)

Practicality wise, does that work?

Driving wise, how tame is it going to be by comparison with a Chim 500?

The SL55 AMG is a 2 seater car & if you take a close look you will see there are no rear seats ! Behind the two seats are storage compartments & the belts that you see are designed to hold specific Mercedes luggage in place. If you value your family's safety then you will not even consider squeezing your children into the car as you said. If you were ever to be stopped by the police with your children in the car as said you would be in serious trouble & probably find your insurance is null & void if you were involved in an accident. Sorry to be direct but im sure you want your children to be safe.

I'm not proposing to "fit" the children in the rear.

If I wanted to do that, I've got a Parcel Shelf in the TVR I could do that with!

My impression, was that the SL55 AMG was a 2+2 (ie 2 v small seats in the back.

This shows as 5 seats, which is clearly not the case, but in the I think 4th picture it shows what looks like 2 rear seats?

Am I thinking of a different car?

You may be thinking of the older version the one in the advert is the R230 model with metal folding roof. The older SL was a 2 plus 2 with electric cloth roof SL R129 its rare but they did AMG version I think.

HI, I come from the world of TVRs (Chim 400,S3, Wedge etc). I sold my last TVR purely on the reason you have highlighted, need more than 2 seats.

After much research and test driving of different things I have bought a SL 500 R129. My wife is 5ft 11 and she still has a good amount of room in the front seat with a 5 year old in the back who straps in with the seat belts attached. My R129 is a 2 + 2 and imagine that should be able to get a child up to the age of 11 ish into the back quite comfortably.

Driving wise it is completely different to the Chim. More of a sports tourer than sports car but I have to say the build quality, comfort andn sheer class of the car is amazing compared to the Blackpool offering but I do miss the rawness of the TVR.

The 5 litre V8 is great and when you use the kick down you get the expected 'shove in the back' , pinned to your seat and off you go. Biggest thing for me is due to the refined nature of the engine you really do not realise how fast and quick you are going unless you keep a weathered eye on the speedo.

Cheers

If you want to enjoy a powerful car that has seats for the children - consider a Mercedes C63 AMG....monster performance, practicality, great sound and 4/5 seats.
