Here's the thing.

I have lined up a Sept 13 V8VR but have just spotted a Sept 13 V8VSR just come up for sale.

Now I have a dilemma. I can get into both cars but the S would dent another £8K in the back pocket.

Is the current model S worth the extra dough? Help please!

I will say it before anyone else, but buy the book

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Short answer will depend on whether Manual or Sportshift and what options are fitted to the V8VR

For your model year most of the V8VRS items were fitted to the V8VR.

Sat Nav/Cruise/Bluetooth were standard on the S and options on the V8VR but I would be very surprised if at least Sat Nav was not optioned on the V8VR in question.

Then the S has a bit more power and torque, sports exhaust, wider sills, carbon fibre splitter and diffuser, different interior details and trim. I think ALL roadsters get sports suspension.

If both cars are manual then the S will also have a Sport button which will change throttle map and exhaust sound. On the Sportshift models both cars will have a Sport button but on the S it changes a few more parameters then on the standard model

In short not a lot different for MY13 cars so, if equipment levels are equal, then the V8VR makes a very good case for itself particularly if Sportshift. The cost difference new was £10K but that is questionable value.

All that said I bought an S :-)

I should have pointed out that both cars are identical colour, both external and internal. Both are sport shifts, have sat nav and reversing camera. The only difference in spec is the S has second glass key and memory seats.

Taking a look at the classifieds I think the S is the much rarer commodity and in my mind worth going the extra few bob.

I find the S a little more exclusive and with it having a Sports Exhaust it offers a slightly better tune than the standard model imo.

Any way as Mikey would probably agree the S club needs a few more members so come on get it sorted.

BTW, mines July/Aug 13 and no sign of that extra glass key in sight,is this a new offer or have I been turned over…………yet again :scratchchin

Well, best of luck with your decision, which ever version you decide to purchase I'm sure you will be delighted with your choice..yes but one last thing please……………

Lets be registering it and getting into gear to show it off at Burghley in July for all in the inmates to enjoy.

NB, Other events are available by the visitors preference……….paperbag

I would suggest you ask the selling dealer to explain the differences. I assume the mileages are the same. The addition of the sport button is an excellent feature and well worth having. Check that the standard car does not have comfort suspension because it is not good. Without doubt the residual value of the S will be better than the standard car. Which ever one you choose owning an Aston Martin is a great experience. I just wonder that if you didn't buy the S within a few months you will wish that you did.

If it is a MY12.25 none S and they are as similar as you say, the only differences are the interior "flourishes", CF bumpers with V12 sills, suspension, N400 air boxes, sports exhaust and sports button. (maybe clear lights?)
If I was buying now I'd struggle to justify the £8k but would probably buy the S for the suspension, exhaust, sports button and residuals.

The S has more bits in Carbon not plastic like the front and rear, and 10 more ponies.

I know a lot of the S is now on the standard car but is the suspension the same? The old sports pack suspension isn't as hard as the S? And the exhaust on the S is louder?

I think the S is just a slightly more sporty/aggressive car than the std, but 8k is a lot for that premium and even though resale will be stronger, its not going to be 8k.

That all said.. I bought the S

...just seen that Mikey has said pretty much the same thing

The S is around £10k more when new, but a lot of that is accounted for by options that could be fitted to a standard V8 (although not the power increase, Sport throttle map, or some of the unique interior touches) so the key here in weighing up the value aspect will be mileage, model year and spec. Do you have a link to both?

Thanks guys,

The standard car does have the sports button (that's the one far left of the drive buttons right?) I believe the suspension is the same.

I do think the S looks "meatier" due to the extended sills and as I have driven as S coupe the standard car well dare I say it doesn't sound as good...but is that worth an additional £8/9K?

Still need the link to the standard car in order to compare specs... all Sportshift cars have a Sport button but this changes the gearchange strategy, on the S it also alters the throttle map and exhaust sound.

Myself & Mikey both went from V8VR to V8VSR - I'd concur with his views

Because it's the later model V8VSR and in particular, has the same updated sportshift box, which for me was by far and away the biggest reason to upgrade from one car to the other, I'd struggle to spend the extra cash if the specs in every other respect are literally so similar between the 2 cars

You could even use the 8k difference to buy the ludicrously expensive CF versions of front & rear splitter/diffusers and have change with that money ! Or on any manner of other upgrades including fancier exhaust (no net necessarily manifolds, just a backbox which will be even better than the one on the S). I'm not sure there will remain an 8k premium when the car is 2/3+ yrs older, but I accept to someone who hasn't studied the cars in depth, the used market in a few yrs time will see the S as the more desirable car without necessarily realising the spec gap between S & non-S has narrowed

But put bluntly, drive the 2 cars back to back and I'd have thought the differences are pretty slim

oh btw second glass key is a cost option for the person that asked

The S has a few options over the std car
CF dash & side strakes
Sport pack wheels
Front parking sensors
Premium stereo
Alarm upgrade

Talk to Lloyd and haggle for a deal on the S wink

apparently 2014 manual gearbox standard V8 US cars now have a "Sport" button too. If so, the only thing that it can alter is the throttle map ..

Do you know the position on UK cars?

I think on 2013 and onwards Roadsters, V8 and V8S have the same sports suspension ...

I think that is true.

None of us seem to be helping much. I think we are all saying that the V8VR is better value but that we would all still buy the S :-)

Personally I could not live with the standard audio but spec is such a personal thing.

I would be surprised if there is not some room in that V8VRS price to close that £8K gap - put your cards on the table and say you are going to pull the trigger on the other car if not. You have nothing to lose.

Best of luck.

I agree, bear in mind that with the forthcoming reg change the dealers will be taking in extra stock . They will need to move existing vehicles. It's all about cash flow.

Negotiate as hard as you can on the S. It is a better car, if you keep it long term you'll be glad you did, and if you decide to sell it, it will be worth more.
