Electroless nickel plating turning black in tap water.

We have a odd situation at work where we have certain batches of our adapters and fittings electroless plated in Nickel however some batches are turning black after being immersed in tap water for a period of time (usually a few days).
They are usually brass CZ121 base material. Obviously not acceptable and only seems to of been happening recently.
