Oil pressure sender
Discussion
anyone sick of all my questions yet?
Anyhow......below is a picture of my oil pressure gauge......as you can see its very high
Now the problem is the engine is not running, I have not turned it on (been like this since I got her)........so its likely be the oil pressure sender but for the life of me I cannot find it.......crawled around under the car for an hour last night so any advice would be helpful

Normally down the front of the engine close to the main cross member and the rack / ARB. There is the oil pressure switch normally on the drivers side of the engine block and the larger pressure sender. Not sure about this modified car but they normally look like this:
Switch for the oil light is the smaller one. The rubber protective jacket on the pressure gauge sender is optional

Any help?
Chris

will need to look for both as my dash light did work and now does not (i.e. when you turn the key the red dash light does not come on)
The hunt is on

I've been having similar issues with mine off an 88 series 2 350i which uses the later dials. The original sender still works but was leaking oil. The original has a resistance of 250ohms not connected, ones off ebay and from Demon Tweeks work the other way with zero ohms not connected so show max pressure when the engine is off. I bought one from Racing Green for early Grif which has a resistance of 300 ohms so it works but reads a bit low. For now I 've sealed the original with Loctite 222, baked it in the oven and so far it's not leaking and working perfectly. I could do with finding out what the right replacement is which is probably what you need too.
Hi there
I had a similar problem on my 350i when ignition switched on gauge went right off the scale changed a few earths etc to no avail. Yesterday whilst just looking around engine with a torch spotted a terminal on side of a sensor going to oil pump and the terminal was slack, pulled connecter off and it was green and dirty looking cleaned it up and put back on... hey presto now working again. Hope this info may help

Hi all, is it normal for a delay before the oil pressure gauge starts moving up the gauge. On start up the oil pressure warning light goes off immediately but it takes 10 to 15 seconds before the gauge moves off its stop and creeps up the dial?
They're usually damped to some extent (and some of the Stewart-Warner instruments retain their last reading when switched off) but 15 seconds is a bit slow; could be a blockage in the sender inlet?Jack Valiant said:

I think I've found it, the big one is connect with just one sound / clean wireSwitch for the oil light is the smaller one. The rubber protective jacket on the pressure gauge sender is optional

The smaller one isn't connected / no wires connected and I can see any unconnected
