I had a double helping of the Lancaster last year funnily enough, one planned, and one un-planned that was possibly the most incredible bit of jammy luck anyone could ever have, outside of winning the lottery.
First one was going to my local airport to see her landing, where she would stay overnight ahead of an air-show the next day.
However - a mate of mine asks if I want to go on a road trip from home in the South, up to a place near Lincoln to collect some engine parts that were waiting for him up there. On the day we just happened to choose, unbeknown to us there was an air-show going on near our destination.
When we got near our destination, the satnav sent us along some rural roads that dissected some flat, open fields near to this air show. As we drove along one, being a summers day with the windows and sunroof open, we suddenly heard that totally unmistakable sound of 4x Merlins giving it large.
We slowed down to a near-stop and looked to our right from where the noise was coming from....and incredibly, on that day, at exactly that time, on exactly that road, and exactly where we had stopped - the BoB Lancaster was heading straight towards us, on a low-level pass on it's way to the airfield maybe a mile to our left
The bird flew RIGHT OVER the top of us - we couldn't have stopped at a better place even if we'd had prior knowledge of the route! When she went overhead, as well as the Caravelle we were in shuddering with the noise and vibration, I could make out every single rivet on the underside, she was that low and close!!!
There aren't many days where one is in the right place at the right time - but this was one of them! We were so lucky!

You really can't beat the noise of a Merlin - the more the better.

WOW ! All great clips.
Definitely crank up the speakers as suggested.
I know nothing about flying but that looks proper complicated with all those manual controls. I should think to keep
one of those in the air, in formation, flying a night mission whilst under AA or ground fire must have taken some balls !
So graceful in the air but a bit awkward on the ground. They look really easy to tip forward onto the nose on landing
if you don't get it right. On the first clip - there is a great bit at about 1:45 when you can hear the Fieldfares (I think)
chirping away as the mozzie comes in for a pass. Very evocative of the South Downs during the BoB I would imagine.
Is it really the only one currently flying ?

Anyone know what the squawk/alert type sound on the onboard video is?... and here in formation with the Canadian Lancaster, a B-25, two Spitfires and a Hurricane.
