just wondering if anyone knows the answer to this.

I am a private hire driver for a company(taxi) not hackney carriage and I might be considering a part time job as a delivery driver for a takeaway part time to supplement my income(debts etc :-( ). will my insurance cover me for this already as I have hire/reward etc and as its my first taxi insurance im already paying £2,500 a year

Best way to check is to ask your broker.

I doubt the cover for hire/reward automatically extends to new and undisclosed occupations.

No it wont.

Hire and reward insurance is not the same as the risk you are asking for. Depends on the broker/underwriter as to whether theyre prepared to take on the additional risk and for what additional premium.

just rang my insurance company and they've said youre not covered on the taxi policy but she then transferred me over to a young misinformed work experience lad(imo) for business insurance cover who then said they couldn't do that!!! don't these company employees tak to each other??? waste of a 12minute call to a 0333 number who I pay £2,500 a year!! so next question is can I go and get just a business cover from elsewhere as im under the impression you CAN have 2 policies on the same vehicle???

sorry for long winded post.

It depends. I know the company I work for wouldn't do it. There maybe a specialist broker out there who would but your talking two completely different business strains. And dual insurance opens up all sorts of issues if it goes wrong and you have an accident.

don't really wanna risk doing owt illegal though. my private hire mondeo cost me nearly 14k so other option is to go out n buy a 4-500 quid snotter and insure that instead?? I have 10 years no claims and clean licence so surely that might be a better option?? what do you guys think?? just looking at all options really.

also thanks for replies.

Feel guilty now for you having to make that call.

With you on the snotter if only for the fact your Mondeo won't be a pleasant place for passengers next morning if you have been delivering Pizza, curry or whatever.

Good luck with it.
