Insurance woes
Discussion
I recently move house. Didn't give a second thought of how it might affect insurance prices, as I was just moving from one crappy postcode to another. But after doing a bit of research into changing my car, it seems to be having a huge affect on quotes from comparison websites. Upon further research my new postcode seems to be awful - im told i must refer to insurers over the phone.
Please tell me that I will get reasonable quotes when I speak to somebody
For those interested, ive moved from RM10 to E7.
As an example, quote on a Honda Prelude 2.2 Motegi:
New postcode - £3,800!!!!
Old postcode - £1,100
WT actual F? How does anybody afford to drive around here???

Is it ironic that I moved here to half the distance of my cycle to work?

Those are Aviva's rating area for motorbike Insurance from about seven years ago, they bore little relation to car insurance then and even less nowlittleredrooster said:
Any idea where correct, or more up-to-date info can be found?
Each Insurer builds their own post code rating structure drawn from their own claim statistics. The information is commercially sensitive so Insurers don't publish it.
If they did publish their post code rating areas people would also accuse them of price fixing

Get a wrong postcode like OP is like a killer drunk driver and 95% won't want to insure you

Where does it say motorcycle (or do you have inside knowledge)?Anyway, this says the same thing:

When I moved to London from Ireland I briefly thought about having a car for weekends and general wandering about. My E5 postcode meant even the cheapest of cheap cars was over a grand despite a lot of no claims years. I online quoted so many, hoping for a sneaky Volvo or the likes to slip through and bereasonable, but no go. I bought a bike. Not a motorbike. just a bike. Sigh.

I've been in Insurance for a long time, we used to work premiums out by referring to an Underwriting Guide and would calculate premiums by looking up vehicle group and rating area and then adding any loads and deducting any discounts. I well remember using those rating areas.Anyway, this says the same thing:

If you look at the third paragraph where it explains the asterisk it actually says "Motorbikes need to be locked in a secure garage"
It's 100% the Aviva motorcycle rating codes from about eight years ago, there's another website that has the same thing which also states they're car insurance rating areas.
It had hardly anything to do with car insurance when it was actually in date as motorcycles tend to be affected by theft claims as well as accidents but not so affected by injury claims. Even when it was in date car Insurers had many more rating areas and also rated on the next digit as well (Most now use the entire post code)
The other link you've given probably uses the same data as the Aviva motorbike link.
They used the Aviva motorbike rating areas as due to their being hardly any money in motorbike Insurance the premiums were still worked out manually (By calculator and a rating guide) until relatively recently. Car Insurance was computerised for quotations a long long time ago so there was no reason to issue a rating guide for calculating premiums
