Are there any RS2000 Escorts left ? I would have thought the tin worm would have eaten them all by now.....

Glad to see the wedge getting the recognition it deserves.

As to the BMW M5....

I once had the pleasure of driving a square-ish body M535i Alpina Turbo er, 1990 ish ?
Rechecking it on the web to aid my memory, it was an E28. I remember it had over 300bhp, Web says 320. I guess it's what a 420 wedge/ 4.0 Griff would be like ?

I remember it happily got to 70mph in SECOND gear !! And pushing the pedal caused this giant unseen hand to shove you in the back....it was AWESOME !! Its road handling was superb, as was the engine, which was so smooth for so much power, that's a good L6 for you of course.

Does Wilson mean the RWD RS2000, where prices have already gone through the roof? Or the later FWD version?

Merc 500 is a potential money pit of monstrous depth.

Spot on - I've been looking at RS Fords in general and all of them are heading north. The only 'non-project' RS2000 for sale recently has been the Aussie import up for 12k..

Hmmm... Whilst I can see it was rare, I personally never liked the 'droop snoot' front, I thought it spoiled an otherwise quite good looking car (for the time of course).

You can pretend you're in The Professionals all over again. I had the 3.0 S Capri but never the RS.

Car is a 350SE num 21 and it was a very wet day in Jan.

The car is the last 350SE made and the actualy last 350i made in Jan 91.

I thought num 26 was the last one made. I own num 20 which is a late 1990 on an H reg. Now that these cars are getting rare and publicised, perhaps we should pile on another 5k. I must buy the magazine and take a look.

Hi Tony

Your are partly correct number 26 was the last one made from the original production run. But not all the chassis numbers agree with this, it appears people who ordered the cars were allowed to chose the ID number from those left. So num 19 could have been made before say num 9!
But in the case it's different.
The original num 21 was a total write off in Dec 90, today it would have been a cat C or even a B.
But the owner wanted a replacment.
The factory at this time had finished 350i production! The factory were then persuaded to make him a new car, which they did starting in Jan 91. They numbered the new car as 21 as it was a total replacment for the other car.
So they thought, but some car dealer then rebuilt the original car and it was last seen up in the north, but was not called a 350SE, plus the factory completly disowned it!

Surely it is still the Original car, "Factory disowning it or not" it will bear the original numbers to make it the original 21, not a remake 21.

Great to see the wedges getting the recognition they deserve.

So if 350SE Number 21 mark II was a special build after the 350i Production had ceased, that then would make 350SE number 21 mark II a special build and not the last of the 350i production surely.

Rob

The factory state in there records that the original 21 was scrapped! The replacement car was given the designation 21 by the factory to replace the original scrapped car!
The factory and TVRCC also stated she is the last 350i series car made!

Either way, Wedges look like they are on the up.

Which can only be a good thing for all the present owners out their.

What I'm worried about is that previous Wedge owners will want to come back but won't be able to because they'll be well out of the market financially.

I have experienced this with the e type from my younger days. When me and my brother used to own a v12 e type Jag, we couldn't give it away, let alone sell it. Everyone kept saying, who wants a two seater gas guzzler? Well, look at the situation now. Can I get back on the e type market? Only in my dreams, or maybe if I sell my house.

So be ware ex Wedge owners. Grab one while you still can! biggrin

Well I hope they clarify that in the article, since the banner states 350i...

There will be one of those "halo" effects if one specific model of Wedge increases in value substantially. Can't see what investment benefit there would be in a RWD RS2000, already a long way up the curve.

1990s Japanese 2 seaters. Must rent that warehouse.
