Car shopping for the wife. Arrrrrrrgh.

Mrs C was involved in a non-fault accident the other week, her car has just been confirmed as a write off so we need to find her something new.
Budget is capped at 6k, maybe 6.5k absolute maximum. It must be "sporty looking", less than five years old, under 50k miles, safe, economical (at least high 30's MPG) and "nippy". Oh, and it has to be a three door.
She did have a Clio GT 1.6 VVT which ticked all those boxes apart from the economical.
Easy? Well yeah, it should be. Strictly in the supermini class or smaller. No Peugeots - "they're everywhere". Doesn't like the Ford Fiesta - "it's a Ford". Only likes the latest version of the Polo, impossible to get in budget. No Citroens - "don't like them". Can't have another Clio - "it would remind me of the accident". The sportier looking Corsas are "boy racer cars, yuck". Tried Kia, Hyundai, Suzuki, but she's not interested in a car she hasn't heard of.
She likes the Golf though, a Golf would be fine. Had I mentioned the 6k, less than five years old, under 50k miles?
Oh, and before the inevitable is mentioned - the MX-5? That's out, because her boss drives one. Well, that's a sensible reason not to have a car. Arrrrgh...........
I thought this was going to be a "what car", thread but I've decided all I actually want is to share my pain with other PHers. This is going to be a loooooooong weekend of going round dealers before finally realising that some of the criteria have got to change..........

She doesn't like the Fiat 500 "Fiats are unreliable and I don't like how it looks" - but have just found out the Ka might be OK despite the fact it's a Ford (the reason for not wanting a Fiesta) and a 500 underneath.

There's a car buying website aimed at laydeez ive seen advertised lately on TV. They can put in important criteria like colour, handbag storage, etc and it will endeavour to find something suitable. If nothing else it will illustrate to her how difficult it is to fit in with her requirements.

Civic Type-R. It's 2007 plate, but if she really needs to be seen in a new car then private plate to hide the age?

Yours or her criteria - who's setting the budget?Does she do many miles? If not, then PCP/lease something new. Maybe the £200/mth SLKs are still available, although that might piss er boss off.
