What would you say has more benefits in being used? I've had a VPower card from Shell for a few years now and use to get a fair amount of fuel vouchers to pay for petrol before, I do less miles now and this has pretty much stopped, maybe the odd £5 fuel off compared to the £25 or so I use to get every 3 months.

Recently got a Tesco clubcard as I shop there all the time, hoping I can put the clubcard points to better use instead of the VPower points.

Thoughts please? Quality of fuel between the two are the same, mostly use 95 ron in the daily driver, otherwise momentum or VPower in the M3 when I'm out in that. Not wanting to start a thread about fuel quality wink

Quality of fuel aside, although I've never noticed any difference or had problems in many years of filling where its cheapest. Where I live there is no Tesco filling station so I use Esso as it happens to be the cheapest and accepts Tesco Clubcard. For the one vehicle that needs 98 RON I use Shell and the V_Power card, or whatever its called now. If anyone else local sold 98 RON cheaper I would probably use theirs, Esso high octane is just 97 so no good for my purpose.

I've got both but the clubcard gets hammered the most and I can't notice any difference in performance or economy. It makes more financial sense if you shop there a lot but I also buy everything on a cash back credit card. Doing that pays for my insurance and tax the following year.

Tesco rewards used to be better, but they halved the points on fuel a couple of years ago.

I use Tesco Momentum anyway so it's free cash to me to use the Tesco clubcard, and 50ish points a pop are good.

Thanks for the replies, I'm leaning more towards using the ClubCard than the VPower one since it can possibly benefit me doing the grocery shopping. Wanted to know what PH member's thought.

Interesting to use cash back credit card, may look into that, trying to manage my finances better and build better credit score, everything paid for using debit card but may take a credit card out for fuel etc. But thats for another area of the forum

You can set up your Shell card so the rewards are Tesco clubcard points

Why not use both? I use a Santander123 credit card until I've spent £300 on fuel, then use a Tesco credit card (which doubles as a clubcard), and use the Shell card as well.

£9 every month from Santander. Around £25 per quarter from Tesco. And whatever I get from Shell. I don't use Shell much, as it only goes in the M, but it's usually £5 per quarter (+ free cash withdrawals - this month's crazy voucher!).

Get loyalty cards for all the stores, Nectar, etc. Free money without changing your purchasing habits smile .

I know it's not fuel, but to give you an idea of what can be achieved...
My best yet (in % terms) is Costa in Moto services. AA membership = 20% discount at Moto. Costa points. Tesco points. A medium Americano should be £3.35. I pay £2.68, get 13 Costa points (13p) and 2 Tesco points (2p).

AA membership is because I have £100 in an AA account and I get 11p a month interest.

The point I'm trying to make is if you set everything up, you can get free money for no further effort.

Ah ok, interesting! I may look at that and assume you just change that on VPower website after logging in?
Another plus point for Tesco though is that the fuel is usually 1p cheaper, the station isn't far from where I live and drive past it on a regular basis.
May just adjust the VPower card for when I use VPower so they are clubcard points, and continue using Tesco for the daily runner

So you spend £300 on your 123 CC then use the Tesco CC for fuel, and build points onto your Shell card? I need to look at doing things like this as there is money to be saved, and also money to be received! Going to have to re-read your post in minute as I have food waiting for me right now biggrin

Yes. Max payout for fuel on 123 is £9. Unlimited on everything else. If you spend more than £300 on fuel, the extra gets no free dosh.

The Shell card is independent of the credit cards and can be used at the same time. Just like Nectar at BP.

If I get fuel from Tesco at the beginning of the month, I use the Tesco card as a clubcard (2 pts every 2 litres) and the 123 card gets me 3% as well.

Every little helps wink .

Clubcard points are only decent if you use the clubcard deals (or whatever they're called) where you get triple the amount on quite a lot of stuff. e.g. £10 in clubcard vouchers gets you £30 worth of eurotunnel vouchers.

Tend to go Paris once a year atleast so money off Eurotunnel or similar will be worth it for me.

The £9 a month from fuel you received from £300 a month, is that paid back into the CC account or into a general account you have with Santander, my mortgage is with them.
I shouldn't hopefully be spending that amount on fuel soon, running two cars I spend alot but M3 is for sale so this should drop.

It is credited as cashback to the card, rather than being transferred out to current/savings accounts.

I've never paid for RAC cover since 2005, because of this. And I also do the free Eurotunnel once a year.

I got desperate this year as some vouchers were about to expire, so I doubled up on clothing and kitchen goods. I got some free trousers and SWMBO got some free pots!

I use both. Shell card mostly because I'm half a mile from a Shell station and it's on my way if I go anywhere. Tesco one also gets used for fuel but I use Black circles for tyres which gives lots of points.

This is what I do, it's currently +30% until end of March.

Have been doing this for ages in conjunction with my Virgin Atlantic CC and me and the Mrs have enough points to upgrade Premium out and Upper back to Orlando in the Summer.
