I used to do the journey in reverse once a month, needing to be in MK for 10:00, and I had to be on the road before 7:00 to make it in time.
It will be bad queuing to get into the roadworks at junction 23 (A1), and now the roadworks go all the way to junction 28, M11 so it will slow the journey down even more.

I'd give an alternative route some thought.
A421 past Bedford and either A1, or A428 to Cambridge and M11 or even cross country some serious consideration. Might be longer, but more reliable and more options for diverts.
Ultimately TomTom and HD Traffic is a very useful idea.

M25 is the quickest route unless there has been a major incident, I would expect it to take an hour and 15 minutes. It'll be slowish but you should keep moving along, would probably take longer doing it in the other direction.

If you come off at Ongar and follow the Ongar Rd into B/wood , your only on A414 for about 5 miles going opposite rush hour trafficpaulmoonraker said:

Me id be gone half 7 and food up.
Suppose it depends on how important this arrival time is?
